This question is for writers who have experience in this only. I am a writer interested in starting a career in freelance writing. I am a creative writer and I studied journalism in college--although, I have chosen to take a different path ultimately. Anyways, I love writing and I would like to get into magazine and newspaper submission writing. I'm familiar with the general, basic-approach websites like writersdigest.com, but I would like get some perspective from those who have did it about how to go about it, and what to expect.

I've written several things for myself and various companies that I've worked for, but writing has always been my passion and I'm wondering how exactly one just jumps into the career.

I have done some freelance work through the web, but I want to pursue this as a full time career.....any suggestions? I have done work on all sorts of things, but I feel that Editorials would be my best route as well as some fiction....but to be honest I think I would be a great Editorial writer

I have seen several questions before on how to break into freelancing in general, but I would like to know specifically about writing short or lengthy stories in fantasy. I have no previous freelancing experience and I'm currently taking a course through Penn Foster to prepare me but it does not explain much about the fantasy genre and where to start in that specific field. Do you guys know of any good places to turn in fantasy short stories to? Also, is this the sort of thing that can turn into a career or is it side job work? Thanks!

I've never really been interested in a lot of jobs. I had a knack for quitting a lot of low paying retail jobs when I was a little younger. I'm eighteen now, and I decided before I make the mistake a lot of people do (getting stuck in jobs they hate), I'd try to get a head start on a career I'd actually enjoy. The problem is, I have no clue how to get into this type of thing. I'd also have no clue where to even start looking for information. Most writing sections I check usually deal with poetry and whatnot. Does anyone have any information on how I could get into this type of job? I really don't care what I am doing, as long as I am writing. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it more then you could ever know. I'm sure there are classes or something I should be taking. I know it's possible, but all of those people hate that would do that for me and some of the rich people in town and from high school whom are jealous of my life back then, any ideas or suggestions, because I am done having that lying boy group, their literally worse than their competiton,and their possibly dangerous webmaster running my life with bad contracts, what are your ideas, anyone, please.

Hello! I am looking into going back to school for my master's degree and am having difficulty deciding which major to focus on. My intent is to graduate with a degree that will best facilitate a career in writing for a magazine. I would like to be employed by the magazine (something along the lines of Cosmo, Seventeen, etc.) instead of going the freelance route. I have always been a writer at heart but never pursued it. I would love to make it into a career, but Im afraid all I've done is so far (Im 27) is administrative work. How can I update my resume so that employers looking for writers will want to hire me? I have no previous work. I have just started my pursuit to a freelancing writing business and I will need some sort of content in my portfolio. I'm looking for anything, preferably something that has to do video games because that is my area of expertise. But I'm willing to write about anything small. Are there any magazines asking for freelancers to write for them or small business? Who ever gives me advice that gets me an assignment gets best answer. (just for fun)
