I've written articles and they've been published; now I'd like to try my hand at having more responsibility in the writing field. Any thoughts? Any experiences?

I want to do marketing copyediting and copywriting in a corporate marketing department. My interests are travel and tourism, multicultural communications (although I'm not fluent in anything but English), health care, or fun consumer products like toys. I'm not interested in the entertainment industry and I don't want to work in the ego-ridden atmosphere of an advertising agency. Got any ideas? Thanks for your help. I really need some suggestions.

I've done some research, and I've heard about majoring/minoring in English, journalism, and communications. I really want to work as a copy-editor in a book publishing company, not on newspapers or magazines. Is the journalism major/minor necessary?

I just finished two copyediting courses and I want to start doing little jobs to gain experience but I want to know a good starting rate to charge. I've got a sharp eye for detail and grammar but I have just a few months experience awhile back doing some technical editing. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and in my classes I used Chicago style. What is a good starting rate to charge for local jobs and for jobs that I might find via the Internet?

I would like to do copyediting at home. I'm working on my AA in English Lit and signed on for every literature and writing class my college offers. I live in the middle of nowhere and don't know where I can find an internship! Is there some kind of online company I could work for? How realistic is it to do copyediting full time at home? What kind of money do you make doing it? Please help!

How do I get involved in these fields? I don’t have a degree in writing/tech writing or English or Journalism. I am a published author however. Who uses such people? Where do I look to find such jobs?

All they do is read a bunch of books and write essays on them, they almost never take actual grammar / grammar theory / copyediting classes, so why the heck do they think they are some kind of authority?!? Simply having an English professor (who doesn't necessarly know real grammar rules) correct your grammar mistakes in the essays does not mean that you actually learn grammar. It's naive to believe that taking one class in grammar does makes you an expert. Even if it did, most undergrad English programs don't require it.

If there is a singular object called a Physician's Permit, and I wish to pluralize it, is it "Physician's Permits" or "Physicians' Permits" --and why?

What rate would you charge per word if you proofread and copyedited a document, taking into account that the document is written by someone whose 1st language isn't English (so possibly more time consuming than regular proofing)?

I'm getting rather frustrated... I've been thinking about becoming a copy editor for a year or so. I'm 18 and planning to major in English, and then I want to copyedit, preferably for a publisher, so I have a steady income while working on my own books. I have taken an online community class in copyediting, but there weren't many resources, or places to talk with other editors. I've been searching the whole world wide web for a community where I can talk to other editors or publishers who might be able to give me some answers on how to get started, the benefits of working for a publisher rather than freelance, locations of reputable publishers that have copyeditors in-house... etc. The only one I found was ACES, which wouldn't let me join even the forum without a membership, which costs money. Does anyone know of any other places I can ask questions? There just doesn't seem to be a lot of copy editors out there. My chances of finding enough here on Yahoo Answers to give me the answers I need, and confirm what others have said, are slim.

I am an undergraduate college student who is highly interested in pursuing publishing as a career. I am majoring in English to prepare for my career, as well as reading Publisher's Weekly and other periodicals. Are there classes that would be beneficial for me to take now besides English courses? I'm copyediting the Closed Captioning of a math video, to wit, the Spanish-translated text for a math video. The translator wrote "computador" (without the "a" at the end), but the dictionary shows "ordenador"--which is used mainly in Spain, I think. However, the video makers are catering to the Spanish-speaking students of the US and Caribbean. They have instructed us not to "overcorrect" with textbook "Spain-Spanish" terms. We have to use the regional words of Mexico, US-raised Spanish-speaking students from Puerto Rico, Dominican republic, etc. My cousins in México use "computadora." But is that what Puerto Ricans and Dominicans use predominantly too? I've never heard my cousins say "ordenador," nor did any of my Caribbean-Spanish speaking students in Boston (where the video is made) ever use that word. Any advice? I had fun correcting "peas" in a video once--everybody had a different word for it. I wound up using the Spain-Spanish word "guisantes" for it!

Please, any suggestions! Is it OK to put: Assisted copywriters in ads editing, or (...the same...) in ads creation or Assisted in copywriting and copyediting I'm not sure about "editing", it seems a bit too simple..."Copyediting" is quite different for me from just "editing"...

I'm having a hard time. I wrote a story and I don't know how or what do to next. I'd like to get it published, but should I copyright it before sending it to a self-publishing house, or should I get an agent? Where do I find a trustworthy list of agents. If I sell it to a publisher, do they own my manuscript? Where can I get Copyediting done? Should I copyright the work before getting it edited? Do publishing houses do copyediting and proofing after buying the manuscript or before? How much is too much for royalties? I'm very confused and really have no way to judge if something's legit. Nor do I live in a place where any of these questions can be answered, so hopefully someone who's published something could help me. Any help is very much appreciated! THANK YOU!!!

I have a phd degree in english.I want to choose copyediting as a profession .I have no language problems but i dont know xml language to do online copyediting.I can do hardcopy editing but not online editing becoz of insufficiet technical knowlg.How do i cope with this?How can i learn to do it?Whas the career in copy editing?please, if some body is into it then guide me. want to work from home.
