I am 28 and expecting a child. I want to take up some course in my local community college which can fetch me a job later. What kind of job can i get with a course in technical writing in English? Is it a good option to start a career?

I took technical writing (probably because I majored in English), but it's been a TREMENDOUS help to me. No one thought English majors do anything but teach. I am a software analyst (JD Edwards), and my technical writing background is invaluable when I am writing a project definition, writing training documents, or documenting a process of any kind. The answer is - if you are looking for a career in technical writing, it helps to be an expert at something, plus have the writing skills to document it. What else do you have experience in? It also depends on what companies are looking for - usually they want a tech writer with background in a particular area, but sometimes just being able to write/communciate well can be an asset and will get you the job.
