What should be my major if I want to have a career in Public Relations.?

So I've just recently been accepted to Auburn University and I know for sure that I want to have a career somewhere in the Public Relations department. I just want to know which majors/minors should I take up to kick start my career. Which majors are best to give me the most information and get me ready for this career. Also I would love to know exactly what a PR is? I've got a clue from other websites but I want to know for sure. Thanks

Answer 1

Communications seems a likely choice. PR requires both public speaking and writing skills. It depends on what kind of PR job. PR for a government agency? Press relations for a pro sports team? Investor relations for a corporation? If you can narrow your focus, that would lead you to some good choices for courses. See if you can find any summer internships in the field. That would help identify your real passion. In the meantime, consider versatile courses in languages, stats, business, intro accounting, etc.
