What is the best way to start a freelance writing career with no prior experience.?

I have experience writing, newsletters for work, and a few things for some organizations I belong to, but I've never tried to do anything for money and it is something I would like to try. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello there, I like you, enjoy writing. I have written several short stories and a book of poems. I never sold anything and had no idea what or how to go about doing so, but i never gave up and one day someone helped me to publish a sci-fi adult styled drama that did fairly well. It takes alot of dedication on your part and a great deal of will power to really succeed in this field! I used to put out a news letter and ZING to and both were very successful!

Answer 2

choose a niche market, market with a website, direct calls and an email newsletter. Check out this example (mine, of course): http://www.eldervantage.com

Answer 3

I've done a little freelance work . You can usually try getting a gig at http://www.freelancewriting.com/ or if you're into academic writing try applying at http://www.academia-research.com/. Its not much to start with but its better than nothing. :-) Hope I helped.

Networking and daily writing are essential. Start a blog as a way of keeping yourself in a writing routine and as a way to share with others. Research for and join online writing groups and/or areas of interest such as bicycling, gardening, whatever rocks your world. Posting to groups who share your interests also hones your writing skills and gives you a good idea of how receptive your writing style is to others. Go to the library and check out the different books and magazines about writing (Writer's Digest, etc) and marketing your work. See if there are any writing groups or workshops in your area. Again, the library is a great place to start as many groups and workshops post on library bulletin boards. Enter writing contests, but make sure the source is reputable! Never dismiss volunteer opportunities, and in fact seek them out. Nothing fills out a portfolio faster than assignments from those who needed the writing the most. Your local library may have listings of those in need of a writer. Calling around to community centers, schools, shelters, etc may yield an entire market for you. While these jobs won't pay, a potential employer (contract) will be duly impressed with your diligence and willingness to work hard. Good luck and keep the pen to the paper!

Answer 5

The following website has free job boards and a link to a freelance writing site. You should check them all out because there are opportunities everywhere for a good freelance writer. Good Luck
