What is the best way to get your first client in copywriting?

I am considering a career change from high tech/corporate to freelance copywriting. I consider myself a good writer but am not sure how to break into the field. I've been through training at the local Community College and have read all the books and feel ready!

Answer 1

Go to craigslist.org, find your city, search under jobs, and look to see whether any employers are seeking copywriters. It will take some perseverance, but if you really want it, it will come through eventually. You can also send out your resume and writing samples to companies you would like to work for with the hopes they will bring you on board. If you do this, follow up with a phone call the next week to see whether they are interested in meeting you in person. Good luck.
