I think if you want to be a writer, such as a novelist, or script-writer, I think you should get a bachelors degree in "English", and if you can get enough financial assistance, get a bachelors degree in "Creative Writing". If you don't want to spend that much time getting degrees, then get a bachelors degree in "English" and a minor in "Creative Writing". Being a writer is a freelance job, so those two degrees would really help you get practice with writing, because you will do a lot of writing in those degree programs. From my experience, no matter what degree program you will go after, you will write a lot, but in those two degree programs, you will write more, but I promise, it will become fun after a few years of writing, as you will have found your writing groove, and you will just write to your own format. I'm not a writer, but I have had many professor tell me that they love the tone that I write in. They find it very pleasant and interesting to read. I try very hard to keep my writing in an upbeat fashion, because upbeat is the only way to write to keep audiences reading and paying attention to the material you dish out. Remember, when you can't seem to think of anything to write, try to get into a fun mood and go to your computer and write like you are fulfilling all your dreams all at once. Some thoughts: major in journalism, write for a newspaper or magazine major in technical writing, write technical manuals or any other kinds of materials for corporations and other kinds of institutions major in drama, write plays major in creative writing, write novels or short stories, or poems major in marketing, write advertising copy major in any of the humanities, gain writing and research skills, apply them in ANY field afterwards! Honestly, my best suggestion is to wait until you get to college to decide upon your major. Your major should be in a field that you LOVE, and how do you know what you love if you haven't studied it yet? You might just adore cultural anthropology, or German literature, or 19th century African history, or comparative religion, or something else you cannot know about yet! Just pick a college that has a good liberal arts and sciences program, and sample many fields of study during your first and second years. THEN you'll have an idea about fields in which to major.
