I have been freelance writing and working odd jobs for most of my life, I am now 29 and am just finishing my degree in PR. It seems like everyone starting in the PR field is YOUNG. Do I stand a chance of getting hired at my age, without experience outside of my internships? Thx!

LOL. almost everyone starting out in any field is YOUNG and they just keep getting younger. yes you do have a chance. you just have to want it bad enough. when you are changing careers then you have to show how your current experience and skill set transfers over to the new career. I advanced as far as I could in my first career path and then changed first at 35 and then again at 38 when the first change didn't take like I hoped it would. 5 years later I'm doing very well in my new field, however I don't see myself retiring from this work so I just may have yet another career change before I reach retirement age. If I do that, it will most likely be to start my own business. Since I'm not clear on what I want to focus on just yet, I'm content to stay where I am. FWIW: one of my aunt's neighbors went to law school at age 40 after working in retail since she was a teen. She's had a successful 25 year career as a lawyer and is now semi-retired. She still does wills, handles real estate transfers and takes the occasional court case and does pro bono work for charity. and when I was in college we had several people in their 70s and 80s taking classes with us. They were there for the mental and social activity but all of this just proves that you're only too old when YOU say you are. the late advice columnist Ann Landers used to have a question she'd ask when someone would say but "I'm going to be X years old when I graduate in X years". (her question: And how old will you be in X years if you don't go back to school?) Don't focus on how long it took you to get where you are now. Focus on your qualifications and your desire to be where you are.
