Ask your school guidance counselor about taking an aptitude test. It will help you see what might be a good career fit for you. They should also have information on various careers you might find interesting. Armed with this information, and your dreams, you may be able to show your dad that creative writing is not as far fetched an idea as he may think. Add in all the English, history, literature, journalism, and creative arts classes you can squeeze into your high school and college years. Don't neglect the basic math and science either. Everything you learn can help you develop your style, and your background knowledge, which is critical to every good writer. If possible work on your school's newspaper, or write school related articles for you local paper.
Keep a journal or diary, and use it to practice writing. Take something about each day - an idea, an obeservation, a person or situation, and expand upon it. Force yourself to write every day. It's all good practice.
Just sitting here and thinking of career possibilities. Some may sound boring, but if you look into them, each one has interesting potential.
> Writer - newspapers, magazines, books, TV, radio, etc. - whether at the local, regional, national, or global level. Anything that is printed needed somebody to write it in an interesting, informative, and intelligent fashion. This could be anything from creative to technical to purely citing the facts.
> Proofreader - sometimes a starting point for writers, to learn how to use language and style.

> Editor - keeping the writing concise and coherent.
> Advertising, marketing, public relations - somebody has to get the message across.
> Publisher/printer - Sometimes even small local print shops have creative people on staff, to work with a variety of customers.
> Web page designer/writer - it got on all those internet pages somehow.
