How can I get my journalism career started?

I am a high school sophomore and I am interested in working at a magazine as a journalist. Is there anything I should be doing in order to get my career started?

All Answers To Questions

Answer 1

Work for your school paper, then go to journalism school. You will want to be selective in the school that you choose, and look into the journalism program. Remember that the quality of the journalism program may not be related to the overall quality of the school.

Answer 2

If your high school has a school newspaper or yearbook, join it. Because when you graduate, you have a collection of clippings so it shows that you're experienced in writing. If there's advanced English clases, take those too, because they're helpful. Also, just constantly immersed yourself in any kind of writing, because the best writers are the best readers :) And, if there's a local teen magazine you should try writing for it--that'll give you experience as well. And, you could try out for an internship at a local paper, it's usually for college students, but it doesn't hurt to try.
