English or Communication major for a Journalism career?

Now I know what some of you are thinking, why not major in Journalism for a career in it? Well...I transferred to my current school which set me back with their requirements to declare majors and I decided I wanted to do Journalism a little late so it's not going to work out. I'm currently a dual degree in English and Public Health, but would Communications with an emphasis on Public Relations be better suited for me?

All Answers To Questions

Answer 1

I've heard a lot of discouragement about going into journalism....it's one where graduates have having the most difficult times getting (paying) jobs in the field. Public relations is where you cover some corporation's but by 'stretching the truth'. Focusing on Public Health would do you the most good.

Answer 2

Communications probably would work better, but let's stress this -- I'd think that your internships and your work would be a better indication of your abilities than your course load. Therefore, you shouldn't eliminate any job possibilities based on the transfer and associated problems.
